Dr. Barbara Keys

Owner, Optometrist

I was born and raised in Ohio, and graduated from Ohio State College of Optometry in 1987.  I have worked in Corporate Optometry, Veteran's homes, for an Ophthalmologist, HMO's and now private practice.  I moved to Fairbanks in 1994 when my husband was stationed at Eielson AFB.  I began working side by side with Jim and Salley Rothmeyer and formed West Valley Vision Center in 1997.  In 2000, I purchased Rothmeyer Optical from Jim and Salley.  I have two sons that keep me very busy with their activities and enjoy the part time schedule I work.  I love Optometry and would recommend this profession to anybody.

I was raised in rural Southern Oregon, and also experienced life as a missionary kid in Africa. After high school graduation I attended Biola University in Southern California completing a Bachelor's degree in History. I worked in the timber industry for a time before returning to professional school and receiving my Doctorate in Optometry from Pacific University in Oregon. My lovely wife and I have been together since we were teenagers and we have three beautiful children, two boys and a girl. They bring such joy to our lives. We enjoy the outdoors, travel, and adventure especially camping, hunting, and fishing. I have practiced Optometry in both Alaska and Idaho, and our whole family is happy to be home again in Alaska.

Jamie Boyle, ABOC

Practice Manager

I was born and raised in Canby, Oregon and graduated from Clackamas Community College in 1997 with an Associate of Arts Degree.  I am married and we have two boys who keep us entertained and busy every day.  I began working for West Valley Vision Center, shortly after moving to Alaska in July, 1999.  My work here began as a receptionist and I received my ABO certification in 2003 and began working as an Optician, until 2005.  I then cross trained as a technician, assisting the Optometrists in our practice.  I became the Practice Manager in 2006 and am passionate about my job.  I have come to know a great amount of our patients in my years of employment and look forward to seeing them from year to year.  When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, quilting and cooking.

Sharon Sesser, NCLEC

Contact Lens Manager

I came to Alaska in 1991 just for the summer and never left.  I married my husband Robert, in 2001.  I have worked with Dr. Keys since 1995 and love the challenge of my job, but most of all, I enjoy our great patients.  I am a Certified Contact Lens Technician and manage our contact lens department.  I teach insertion and removal of contact lenses to new wearers and evaluate the fit of the lenses to ensure they are performing properly.  I look forward to working with each of my patients to meet their contact lens needs.

LeeAnne Mihm

Receptionist/Patient Support

I have been working at West Valley Vision as a Receptionist since July of 2011.  I've lived in Fairbanks my entire life and have always loved the area and people in it.  I have a lot of family all around the country and enjoy the chance to visit when I can; Florida is great in the middle of the winter!  Although I like to travel, there is really no place like home.  Whether it's going to my favorite coffee shop, hanging out with friends or just enjoying the outdoors, I take pride in being a local.  It makes sense, then, that I take pride in working for a great local business.  Just one stop in to see us, and you too will understand why.
